Pergamon Museum CLOSED UNTIL 2037

One of the five great museums on Berlin's Museumsinsel (Museum Island) — making for ever so easy art-hopping — the Pergamon was built between 1910 and 1930 and houses giants of antiquity such as the Pergamon Altar (2nd century BC), the Ishtar Gate (ca 575 BC) and the Market Gate of Miletus (2nd century AD ), rebuilt by Germans from parts excavated in the Middle East. Officially the Pergamom houses the Collection of Classical Antiquities, the Museum of the Ancient Near East and the Museum of Islamic Art. Opens late Thursday, as with certain other local museums. Also listed as one-word 'Pergamonmuseum'. U-Bahn: Friedrichstraße. "In October 2023, the museum was completely closed for visitors, and is expected to remain for fourteen years – that is, until 2037 –, for the execution of comprehensive renovation works."
