A pint-sized, friendly and relaxed "80s-style" bar devoted to radio pop of yesteryear, with walls covered in 7" vinyl sleeves and a jukebox of pop veering from German-provincial Schlager favourites to international hits, whether ABBA, Baccara, Divine or Donna Summer. Redgold 1 is an antidote to the more scene bars in the area, preferring a neighbourhood Schlager-party feel despite being in the gay epicentre. Overseen by the kindly Lothar C., it's also a good place to nip in to for quick takeaway bottles of beer during the heaving Folsom street party and other such events when the throng of the more buzzy bars can make for annoyingly slow service. Opened 2007. Sadly this little gem of a bar closed in 2022, replaced by a bar called Gem.
