On December 20th, 2005 Max and Stine met at a noodle shop. Max liked Stine and Stine liked Max and Easter was only a few month away… Since then, the art pop duo have crafted their lives into a Gesamtkunstwerk. Their performances are hypothermic, their sound synthetic, and their lyrics unsettling, futuristic, otherworldly. After the album “The Softest Hard” and the über-hit “Alien Babies” came “New Cuisine Pt. 1”, “Beige Eyes”, and the first season of the surreal soap opera “Sadness is an Evil Gas Inside of Me” starring Anika, Britta Thie, and Lars Eidinger. For a pop band, Easter tread a unprecedentedly artistic and stubborn path—it’s with their characteristic stoic calm that they play their cards. And Easter have another ace up their sleeve: Their long-awaited EP “New Cuisine Pt.2” will be presented for the first time on this evening at the Volksbühne.
FENSTER

Torstraßen Festival Edition #1, 2011: The band Fenster show up at CCCP Bar, unfold the infamous ironing-board, and mesmerize with the sensitively playful pop music they’re still known for five years later. Today, the small enterprise around power couple Jonathan Jarzyna and JJ Weihl look back on their notable output. Among their products: three albums released on Morr Music, among them the self-produced magnum opus “Emocean”, a psychedelic, science fiction music-movie starring the band itself. Fenster are not only intimidatingly productive—they’re also highly collaborative in their method of production: for this special Volksbühne concert, we expect a Best of Fenster show with special guests and other delightful surprises. May we call this “Friendster”?
JAAKKO EINO KALEVI

It’s no accident that the former tram driver Jaakko Eino Kalevi releases his music on a label called Weird World. Kalevi’s world always was a bit weird, starry-eyed, and enraptured. The Finnish troubadour now travels the world over to charm with a sonic cosmos that blossomed out of mere underground hits like “Flexible Heart” and “I Wanna Win”. Wherever Kalevi decides to let his hair down, from Moscow to Mexico City, his elegant dream pop melts hearts. His latest album, plainly titled with his own distinctive name, is already a provisional masterpiece. Its idiosyncratic songwriting and slick production made it into an inevitable candidate for 2015’s Album of the Year. Welcome home, Jaakko!
