Founded in 1986 as a café and cultural centre by female squatters who occupied (and reconstructed) a house in Schöneberg, the Begine offers the full spectrum of services, arts and culture for women. This multifaceted institution offers an ambitious programme of live music (rock, pop, world music, jazz, chanson), cabaret, theatre, readings of known and unknown writers, film screenings, slide shows, information meetings and discussions, exhibitions, workshops, conferences, seminars, alliance and club meetings, self-help groups, dance and theatre groups, and food.
