Mutschmann's Formerly: Reizbar

Rubber/leather/fetish-friendly haunt started in 2002 in the Martin-Luther-Straße (following the demise of Cafe Connection), bang in the middle of the Schöneberg gay zone, and with an updated take on the traditional European leather bar. A bit uncool in terms of decor and music, the original bar initially had a major pull with traditionalists and younger sex hunters alike, with its elaborate, dark and sleazy basement a seismic factor. On Saturday 19 October 2019 Mutschmann's closed its Martin-Luther-Straße location — a combination of factors including sale of the building — and then moved round the corner to Motzstraße 30 (formerly Reizbar, which closed June 2018). Originally due to open late 2019, the new Mutschmann's finally made its debut on Friday 11 September 2020 during the 'cancelled' Folsom Europe weekend. Mutschmann's 2 will strike some as 'designed' (including a rather provincial-feeling bar). And possibly problematic is the tight space all along the bar, also characteristic of the original space. There's a darkroom and also a large, sealed-off smoking room, whereas Thomas Pfizenmaier's competiting New Action — which in the early 2010s usurped Mutchmann's as the local fetish favourite — allows smoking. The bar is already appealing to a younger set. The bar is named after Christian Mutschmann (who died August 2013) but is owned by gay entrepeneur Karl-Heinz 'Kalle' Klatt, whose CV also includes three nearby Fuggerstraße operations — Connection sex shop/cinema, Connection club and buzzy watering hole Prinzknecht [see entries] — plus the now-defunct SM hotel the Kinky Tulip. Note that most evenings feature an 'ALL GENDERS' policy, with Thursdays (and the occasional Friday) given over to 'MEN ONLY!'.
