Intimate and old-fashioned-friendly bar first opened in 1974, by two women. The formerly lesbian lair now attracts a somewhat mixed clientele, with smoking and Schlager giving you a good idea of the local feel. The bar's essence owes much to Daniela, Pussycat's top cat from 1998 until her death in November 2020; she'd worked here since 1982. Her former sidekick "Donna" (an employee since '85) now runs the show, preserving Daniela's legacy. Olaf Hartmannsgruber's monthly Berlin cigar social (Berlin Cigar Men) started here in May 2017 [see entry], giving the Pussycat a leather boost. Meets first Friday of the month. The cigar fetishists tend to colonise the rear, which is the more atmospherically lit of the two adjoining bar spaces. And starting with Folsom Europe in September 2018, BLUF shifted its traditional Friday evening Prinzknecht event to Pussycat, to seismic effect (though not popular with neighbours). The bar is also a focal point of Olaf's Black Weekends (first weekend of the month). This rather overlooked spot is something of a precious little gem within the gay ghetto vortex around the Motzstraße, Eisenacher Straße and the Fuggerstraße. Look for the smiling pussycat that decorates the front and a doorbell which gives an air of mystery. Perfect for a stopover between, say, Prinzknecht and New Action. Located just opposite GEAR Berlin. Yes, smoking allowed. U-Bahn: Nollendorfplatz.
