A key player in the early days of Berlin's still-thriving techno club culture (along with the now-defunct Der Bunker and E-Werk), Tresor first opened in 1991 in Leipziger Strasse in Mitte – the brainchild of Dimitri Hegemann following the 1990 demise of the Ufo Club, the acid house/techno mecca which he'd co-founded in 1988. Tresor, also a record club, closed in 2005, then in 2007 shifted to its current incarnation: a heating plant-turned-megaclub, also in Mitte, located just a few doors away from the even more iconic KitKatClub [see entry], which also is a mostly straight club with a gay-etc thing going on. U-Bahn: Heinrich-Heine Straße. U-Bahn/S-Bahn: Jannowitzbrücke.
