You wouldn't expect to find decent food in a park, but that's just what you can expect at this tucked-away best-kept-non-secret spot serving wurst, sauerkraut, soups, schnitzels, pastas and salads, all of a relatively impressive standard. The lodge-like restaurant was opened in 1954 by the Fistler family, who before the war and on the same spot had run an ice cream-and-refreshments kiosk for leisure walkers and boat passesngers. Underneath the Schleusenkrug were both a waterways complex and an East/West Berlin divide. Schleuse = water lock; Krug = tavern. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and it's located in the southwestern corner of the Tiergarten, just two minutes from the Zoologischer Garten U-Bahn/S-Bahn station. Also S-Bahn: Tiergarten.
