Café des Artistes (Closed Permanently)

(7 Ratings)
White tablecloths in the gay ghetto
Set among the fetish, bear and myriad other cruise bars sex shops in the Fuggerstraße is this rather refined restaurant marked by quality takes on classic Euro dishes — from venison and goulash to beef carpaccio and fish soup — and art on the walls. The similarly named corner bar opens at 6pm and stays awake until 2, 3 or 4am. Opened 2009. Closed 2016, re-opened under new gay ownership as bar Tristan and restaurant Isolde.

Lonely, but well executed...

We visited a very slow night but the service was flawless and the food beautifully prepared. If you don't mind cigarette smoke start with a drink at the bar (which is on the corner next door) - then end with a nightcap at the bar too as it's a late crowd. Back to the restaurant, everyone was friendly, the food super, but we were line diners in the beautiful restaurant - another GO in Berlin!

Real potential

Had the Kobe beef burger. The meat was excellent. The fries, so-so. Again, though, major FAIL with service. The best place Ive found to eat in Berlin is the KaDeWe, its self service and great food. The chef at Cafe des Artistes has talent, management should hire some wait people who can present his-her food properly.

Chic restaurant, nice outdoor seating

This is a new amendment to the gay scene in Schoeneberg, just around the corner to Axel Hotel, Prinzknecht and Connection. It is a branch of the so what famous cafe des artistes in Moscow. The cuisine is mediterranean style, the service is excellent but maybe a bit pricy compared to other locations in this area. So they try to get to the top, but yet haven´t found their clientele yet. The outdoor terrace is wonderful on a hot summer night!
