20th-century family business started in 1912 by Erich Hamann (1880–1949), who specialised in "Bittere Schokolade" (dark chocolate) and who operated seven successful Berlin shops between 1925 and 1934. This one surviving outlet, designed by Bauhaus artist Johannes Itten (1888–1967), opened in 1928.
