An appropriately red-lit, low-ceilinged and seedy establishment not unlike a scruffy Bavarian bar, Tabasco attracts older guys who are attracted to young hustler types, the latter of whom stand around playing pinball and pool (under a fabric tent ceiling) and chatting among themselves. Decor is akin to a male boudoir, with an emphasis on murky browns and reds. Banquettes provide ample space for some of he heftier older onlookers. Opened 1968, with new ownership from 1991. You get what you pay for here (fingers crossed). There's a second (and tiny) bar which opens an hour later and closes earlier.

As long as you know what you're getting into, Tabasco Bar is a great place to hang out while visiting Berlin. It's a pretty relaxed place with friendly bartenders who speak great English and reasonably priced drinks. Yes, hustlers ply their trade there, so make sure that you're prepared for that. They don't call them hustlers for nothing, so keep your belongings secure. None of the guys there appear German. Most are Romanian, Bulgarian, or some other Balkan nationality. Some are quite well-maintained while others appear dirty and unkempt. If you do decide to leave with one, don't take him back to your hotel room. Remember, hustler! Just up the street is Hotel Stockholm, which rents by the hour and caters to prostitution, which is legal in Germany.
Older looking for sex; Younger looking for $$$
The bar itself is as you would expect, run down, seedy, down on its luck sort of place, this is no Numbers Los Angeles circa 1995. Given that prostitution is legal in Germany i was expecting something more. The hustlers are mostly Romanian and Croatian, not the blond hair blue eyed Germans i had hoped for. Most will charge about $100 eu to come back to your hotel, but quite frankly i am not sure that is a good idea. All appear straight and are fine with you blowing them, but are not interested in reciprocating. Interestingly if you turn them down for the offer of sex they generally respond with a "fuck you"
Affordable Drinks & Friendly Bartenders
We were in Berlin for 5 nights and visited Tobasco all 5 nights. The bartender was very nice, the hustlers were very attractive, the bar is well lit, and the locals were fun too. Just one reason I am flying back to Berlin in August!
