Master bread baker and confectioner Johann Kreter opened this Schöneberg jewel in November 2022, having mastered the art of bread and viennoiserie production in training that took him to Zehlendorf (in the outskirts of his native Berlin), then to the Grand Hotel Heiligendamm in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (on the Baltic coast), to Feldkirch (in Austria) and to Lake Constance. Such a grand CV belies the local feel of this pint-sized shop that excels at both bread and bread rolls (Kreter is particular about his grains) and viennoiserie: croissant, brioche, bostock and fruit Danish, plus caramelised Schnecken [swirly-shaped like its namesake, the snail] made with either cinnamon [Zimtschnecke] or poppy seeds — all requiring unusually long dough resting/maturing periods. There's also cheesecake (made with quark). Kreter specialises in offerings that aren't readily available elsewhere. Also of note is his baking comrade Erik. And there's coffee from nearby favourite DoubleEye [see entry]. Located in a residential street parallel (eastward) to the Goltzstraße, about a five-minute walk south of Winterfeldtplatz, which is just south of Nollendorfplatz. Expect long queues on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
