Master bread baker and confectioner Johann Kreter opened this Schöneberg jewel in November 2022, having mastered the art of bread and viennoiserie production in a training that took him to Zehlendorf (in his native Berlin), the Grand Hotel Heiligendamm in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (on the Baltic coast), Feldkirch (in Austria) and Lake Constance. Such a grand CV belies the local feel of this pint-sized shop that excels at both bread (Kreter is particular about his grains) and viennoiserie (croissant, brioche, bostock and fruit Danish, plus Schnecken [swirly like its namesake, the snail] made with either cinnamon or poppy seeds), all requiring unusually long dough resting/maturing periods. Located in a residential street parallel (eastward) to the Goltzstraße, about a five-minute walk south of Winterfeldtplatz, which is just south of Nollendorfplatz.
