Zur letzten Instanz

(2 Ratings)
Berlin's oldest restaurant

For a truly German experience recapturing the old days, you might consider Zur Letzten Instanz in a restored medieval building in Mitte, not far from Alexanderplatz. Opened 1924, suffered during the war, then reconstructed and reopened in 1963. The current owners took over from the previous generation in 2020. Traditional dishes abound, including Eisben (pork knuckle), Wurst (sausage) and sauerkraut options and, for dessert, rote Gruetze. Reservations are a must. Customers have included Charlie Chaplin, actress Henny Porten, illustrataor Heinrich Zille, theorist and activist Clara Zetkin, comedian Loriot, Jack Nicholson and Jake Gyllenhaal. Closed Wednesday and Sunday.

Hours
Mon and Tue noon—3pm, from 5.30pm (open end)
Thu to Sat noon—3pm, from 5.30pm (open end)
